Hotel La Grotto sits just below the village of San Donato itself, on the lower slopes of the mountain. A highly regarded local restaurant for more than twenty five years, La Grotto is now also a superb and comfortable hotel and conference centre.

The old restaurant was formed by cutting into the rock in caves - from where the hotel La Grotto takes its name - and these remarkable features and the excellent but inexpensive food and wines attract people from all over the area.

The twenty-room hotel building plus conference and banqueting centre for up to 400 people was added just three years ago. The “alpine” high-pitched architecture of the new building blends beautifully alongside the older restaurant and then into the natural magnificence of the area.

The visitor's first impression of the Hotel La Grotto is one of calm spaciousness. The entrance areas and public rooms are huge with numerous quiet areas to sit and read or relax, all decorated with walls friezes showing areas of local interest.

The bedrooms themselves are fully equipped as you would expect, with en-suite shower rooms/toilets, colour TV refrigerator, telephone etc but once again one is struck by how much room there is. The two bedrooms especially designed for disabled persons are enormous.

Outside in the grounds we again feel this spaciousness in the gardens and surrounding area - all the while reminded of the natural open spaces of the area with the Abruzzo mountain range towering behind us and the Val di Comino cascading before us down towards the rivers on the valley floor.

High season prices apply to the month of August, plus Easter and Christmas when special inclusive packages are also available. Low season prices apply at all other times.
